DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

In an educationally related environment, the School Physical Therapist evaluates student physical abilities and their ability to perform in the context of access to the educational program, develops goals and objectives for consideration by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, completes assessments and writes legally defensible assessment reports, attends IEP meetings, completes SEIS records including progress reports and other report writing, attends Section 504, SST, Care team, departmental and school staff meetings, completes monthly med-cal billing and other departmental electronic records, provides appropriate treatment to meet individualized student objectives, provides recommendations for accessibility, develops physical therapy intervention plans, maintains appropriate documentation, data collection, prepares formal reports, maintains district PT equipment records, travels to multiple sites to provide services for students in Infant to Adult Transition Programs (0 to 22 years old).

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Evaluate student's functional performance in activities that are meaningful, curriculum oriented, and applicable to daily life routines in an educationally related environment.
  • Assess students' gross motor and development skills (e.g. perceptual-motor, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations in an educationally related environment.
  • Consult with students, parents and guardians for enhancing student access and mobility in school and in school related activities / functions in an educationally related environment.
  • Develop, implement and provide on-site training to school personnel in the use of necessary student equipment (walkers, lifts, standers, etc.) in an educationally related environment.
  • Identify student's abilities and educational, developmental, or functional needs with the Student Success Team (SST), Section 504 Team, CARE Team or Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team in an educationally related environment.
  • Identify structural issues for the purpose of removing barriers for students with physical limitations and /or identifying appropriate adaptive equipment and /or devices by completing required purchasing paperwork in an educationally related environment. E Consult with General Education, Care Team and SST in response to PT intervention strategies in an educationally related environment.
  • Develop an intervention plan that supports the student's goals, objectives/outcomes and implements this plan in the least restrictive environment.
  • Coordinate the implementation of goals/outcomes with the student's team in an educationally related environment.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials for compliance with State, Federal, and administrative regulations (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information in reference to in an educationally related environment.
  • Assist in the development of student transition plans, programs and goals in an educationally related environment.
  • Attend student's IEP meetings to present reports, complete progress on goals, assess students to determine if PT services are educationally related, and collaborate with IEP members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit in an educationally related environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited school by The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy Licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California
  • One-year experience working as a Physical Therapist in a pediatric setting.

ABILITY:

  • Operate equipment used in Physical Therapy interventions

 Plan, organize and conduct a physical therapy program for students with physical limitations with consideration of Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, the Physical Therapist Practice Act and Section 504.

  • Consult regarding questions, inquiries and concerns from parents, students, teachers, and representatives from other school districts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Read and understand referrals from education staff, as well as other printed and written material.
  • Work independently and meet required deadlines.
  • Perform integrated therapy with other Designated Instruction Service (DIS) team members.

Travel between multiple school locations.

  • Physical capacity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.

LICENSES:

  • Valid California Driver's License is required
  • Certified copy of The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT)
  • Certificates and Other Requirements: Ability to meet proficiency requirements as set forth in applicable state and federal laws and District Annual Notices (i.e. Mandated Reporting, Blood Borne Pathogen) First Aid and CPR Certification required every 2 years.
  • Must successfully pass the District's pre-employment fingerprinting and TB Testing

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment: Multiple Work Site (requires traveling) Educationally related environment in school-based settings or other District designated workspaces providing services for students in a diversified special education environment. Sufficient vision to monitor students during activities and to read instructional materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide assistance to students and staff; frequently walking, reaching, holding with arms, bending at the waist, crouching and/or squatting to assist students; dexterity of hands and fingers to assist students and to operate specialized equipment or office equipment; pushing wheelchairs; lifting and/or manipulating objects or persons, and/or use of motion up to 50 lbs. or equivalent with or without assistance by another individual and/or with or without the assistance of devices designed to support the lifting effort.
