DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

As part of their responsibilities, the teacher ensures a comprehensive educational program for students. Furthermore, they cooperate with the School Site Principal and participate in school programs as directed.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Help new students and their parents by explaining school procedures and offering essential information for navigating the school environment.
  • Evaluate the student's primary language skills to determine the necessary instructional support.
  • Work with the classroom teacher to ensure that the support provided is relevant and appropriate.
  • Assist the student in understanding classroom assignments, including instructions and directions.
  • Translate text materials and assist the student with developing study skills and test-taking strategies.
  • Facilitate communication between parents and teachers regarding school-related concerns.
  • Assist the student with school-wide problems that might arise.
  • Help monitor student progress and provide encouragement and support to students. Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Must have full proficiency in the primary language of the student and proficiency in English.
  • Professional or volunteer work with children's groups, tutoring, and/or mentoring highly desirable.
  • Must meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirement of an associate of arts degree, forty-eight college credits, or pass an examination.

ABILITIY to:

  • Ability to be dependable and flexible.
  • Speak clearly and distinctly.

LICENSES:

  • Must have appropriate California Driver's License and be insurable by the Districts carrier.
