SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST:
Title: Speech and Language Pathologist Reports To: Director of Special Education

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education and the principal of the school while working on-site, the Speech and Language Therapist delivers services to children referred by teachers, school staff, or community agencies. Additionally, they assess preschool-aged children, aged three and above, who may require diagnostic services at the request of parents or other involved parties.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Provide direct therapy for speech and/or language handicapped children.
- Hold conferences with principal, classroom teacher and other interested school personnel concerning evaluation results and educational recommendations.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations at the school site when necessary.
- Conduct home calls and parent conferences when necessary.
- Attend Special Education committee meetings upon request. '
- Provide educational planning and prescriptive teaching techniques for remedial instruction to the regular teacher for classroom use.
- Evaluate and report on new tests, material, and research pertinent to innovations and changes in the speck and language field.
- Coordinate diagnostic services with interested community agencies.
- Develop, demonstrate, and present remedial materials and techniques useful in providing correction of speech and language handicaps.
- Perform basic attendance and business services as required.
- Provide follow-up reporting on children previously diagnosed and re-evaluate when necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:
- Possession of a valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services credential for Language/Speech/Hearing.
- Graduate training with a Master's Degree is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Language/Speech/Hearing instructional strategies and school curriculum.
ABILITY TO:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of groups and individuals.
- Demonstrate respect and concern for students, parents, other staff and administrative colleagues.
- Plan and organize work.
- Report writing methods and techniques.
- Meet schedules and time lines.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Frequency Key; None (1) Occasional - up to 25% of shift (2); Intermittently - up to 50% of shift (3); Frequently — up to 75% of shift (4)
