DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The teacher, under the supervision of the School Site Principal, delivers an educational program for students and supports other school programs as assigned

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The teacher demonstrates respect and concern for students, parents, colleagues, and administrative colleagues. Essential qualities include open-mindedness, fairness, consistency, a sense of humor, and emotional stability. They must also have the ability to make decisions and perform their job according to district standards

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The teacher instructs students in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship, following the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and using appropriate learning activities. They may also teach a foreign language.
offers prearranged learning opportunities to inspire students and make the most of the teaching time allotted.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning

atmosphere in the classroom.

assesses the academic and social development of each student, maintains the necessary documentation, creates progress reports, and updates parents on each student's development.
Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and

helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

uses interest centers, bulletin boards, and displays to help students create a practical and eye-catching learning environment.
Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

chooses and orders books, teaching aids, and teaching supplies; keeps the necessary inventory records.
ensures a comfortable room environment by, to the greatest extent feasible, controlling the lighting, ventilation, and heating.
oversees students' activities outside of the classroom during the designated workday.
carries out group standardized testing in compliance with the district assessment plan.
engages in curriculum development and other learning initiatives at the district, school, or both.
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
Participates with other professional staff members in the social hygiene and outdoor education programs.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The District and the State require the appropriate credentials for the position.
