SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Plant Custodian, the Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the assigned school facility, building group, or office area, and performs related tasks as needed.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Operate the heating system so that the buildings are properly heated. El
- Water lawns, sweep sidewalks and play areas, pick up papers and other de4bris on and around school area.
- Clean and keep in an orderly fashion classrooms, halls, and office areas.
- Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and seal floors.
- Dust and polish furniture; dust and wash windows, Venetian blinds, walls and woodwork; clean lavatories and restrooms.
- Gather waste paper and trash.
- Make minor non-technical repairs to buildings and equipment.
- Arrange rooms and/or auditoriums for special events as requested by the principal or plant custodian.
- Open and close windows, move desks and chairs, carry or move heavy equipment or furniture.
- Report needed repair work to plant custodian or school principal.
- Take charge of ensuring the security of the assigned area within the school or plant.
- Read, interpret, and follow written or verbal instructions
- Maintain clean and safe work area.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:
- Graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed below.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic cleaning methods, procedures and techniques.
- Cleaning materials, supplies and equipment. e Safe working methods and procedures.
- Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies and equipment
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Perform simple and repetitive tasks
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Driver's License.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT: Indoor and outdoor environment; regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors
HAZARDS: Contact with cleaning agents and chemicals
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
Frequency Key; None (1) Occasional - up to 25% of shift (2); Intermittently - up to 50% of shift (3); Frequently — up to 75% of shift (4)
