Job Summary
Vallejo City Unified School District is in search of a High School Science Teacher for the Vallejo, CA district. The position involves instructing science to high school students (grades 9-12) using the approved curriculum. The teacher is expected to employ various learning activities to engage students effectively. Planning learning experiences is crucial to motivate pupils and optimize instructional time. Maintaining standards of behavior conducive to a positive learning environment is essential. Responsibilities include evaluating academic and social progress, record-keeping, progress reporting, and communicating with parents. Identifying student needs and collaborating with colleagues to address health, attitude, and learning challenges is also part of the role.
Creating a functional learning environment through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers, as well as handling basic attendance accounting and bus services as required, are additional duties. The teacher is responsible for selecting and requisitioning books, instructional aids, and supplies while maintaining inventory records. Ensuring a comfortable classroom environment and supervising students during out-of-classroom activities are part of the role. Administering standardized tests according to district testing programs, participating in curriculum and developmental programs, and contributing to faculty committees are also expected.
The teacher may be involved in planning and coordinating the work of aides, teaching assistants, and other paraprofessionals. Participation in social hygiene and outdoor education programs, along with the possibility of undergoing standard background checks, is mentioned. The salary range for this position is $56,695 - $105,505. Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, or a related scientific field and possess, or be eligible for, the relevant California Educator certificate.
