DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the School Site Principal, the teacher provides an educational program for pupils and assists in other school programs as assigned.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shows respect and care toward students, parents, fellow staff, and school administrators. Values such as open-mindedness, fairness, consistency, a good sense of humor, and emotional balance are essential. Must be capable of making sound decisions and carrying out responsibilities in line with district guideline
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Instructs students in subjects such as reading, language arts, social studies, math, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship, using the curriculum approved by the Board of Education along with other suitable educational activities. May also be responsible for teaching a foreign language.
- Delivers structured learning activities designed to engage students and make the most effective use of instructional time.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning
atmosphere in the classroom.
- Assesses students’ academic and social development, maintains accurate records, prepares progress reports, and keeps parents informed about their child’s individual progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and
helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Creates with assistance from pupils a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Chooses and requests books, teaching materials, and supplies, while keeping accurate inventory records as required.
- Maintains a comfortable classroom environment by managing heating, lighting, and ventilation as conditions allow.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on the district level.
- Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
- May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.
- Participates with other professional staff members in the social hygiene and outdoor education programs.
EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Appropriate credential as required by the District and the State for the position.
