DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The teacher delivers an academic program for pupils under the direction of the School Site Principal and aids in other school activities as assigned.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To maintain high standards for teaching and learning, educators must be able to make decisions properly, taking into account district guidelines and expectations.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Imparts knowledge to students in various areas such as reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship, utilizing the instructional program authorized by the Education Board and other fitting academic approaches, while also possibly teaching a foreign language.
Instructional time is maximized when teachers plan educational experiences that challenge and inspire students.
A standardized code of conduct for students is fundamental to ensuring a positive learning environment

Monitors students' educational and social advancement, maintains relevant documentation, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents about each student's performance.
Cooperates with other professionals to assess the academic, emotional, and social needs of students

A vital aspect of being an educator is to create an environment that encourages students to seek help for health, attitude and learning problems.

Collaboratively works with pupils in constructing an effective and engaging academic atmosphere by creating imaginative displays, bulletin boards, and interest areas.
Accomplishes basic attendance management and administrative tasks as necessary.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Selects and obtains books, teaching resources and instructional supplies while ensuring accurate documentation of inventory.
Uses appropriate measures to manage the room’s heating, lighting, and ventilation for optimal comfort.
Outside classroom activities are supervised by the assistant during their assigned work hours.
Undertakes standardized tests in groups, in accordance with the testing program established by the district.
Involves in various developmental programs for the school's curriculum and beyond, either individually or as a team.
Supports and invests in student events while contributing as a member on academic committees.
I work closely with paraprofessionals, providing them with guidance and oversight to ensure they meet their obligations effectively and efficiently.
Shares responsibilities with other staff members in executing social hygiene and outdoor education projects.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Appropriate credential as required by the District and the State for the position.

About Highland Elementary

Highland Elementary, centrally located in Vallejo, serves a diverse and expanding community. Established in 1941 to accommodate a growing residential area, some original homeowners still reside in the neighborhood, though increasing numbers of homes now host families with young children. Our student body of transitional kindergarteners to sixth-grade students reflects a rich tapestry of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
