DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the School Site Principal, the teacher delivers instructional programs to students and supports other school-related activities as assigned.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Displays respect and consideration for students, parents, colleagues, and administrators. Key attributes include open-mindedness, fairness, consistency, emotional stability, and a sense of humor. Must demonstrate sound decision-making and perform duties in accordance with district standards.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Instructs students in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship using the curriculum approved by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. May also be responsible for teaching a foreign language.
Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning

atmosphere in the classroom.

Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on the individual pupil’s progress.
Identifies student needs and works collaboratively with other professional staff members to assess and address those needs effectively.

helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

Works with students to create a functional and visually engaging learning environment using displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.
Maintains a comfortable classroom environment by managing heating, lighting, and ventilation as effectively as possible.
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Administers group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on the district level.
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.
Collaborates with other professional staff members in implementing social hygiene and outdoor education programs.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Appropriate credential as required by the District and the State for the position.
