SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST:

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education and the school principal while working on-site, the Speech and Language Therapist delivers services to all children referred by teachers, school staff, or community agencies. Additionally, the therapist evaluates preschool children aged three and older who may require diagnostic services upon request from a parent or other concerned individuals.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Provide direct therapy for speech and/or language handicapped children.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations at the school site when necessary.
- Conduct meetings with the principal, classroom teacher, and other relevant school staff to discuss evaluation results and provide educational recommendations.
- Conduct home calls and parent conferences when necessary.
- Provide educational planning and prescriptive teaching techniques for remedial instruction to the regular teacher for classroom use.
- Attend Special Education committee meetings upon request. '
- Offer follow-up reports on children who have been previously diagnosed and conduct re-evaluations as needed.
- Develop, demonstrate, and present remedial materials and techniques useful in providing correction of speech and language handicaps.
- Evaluate and report on new tests, material, and research pertinent to innovations and changes in the speck and language field.
- Collaborate with relevant community agencies to coordinate diagnostic services.
- Perform basic attendance and business services as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:
- Graduate training with a Master's Degree is preferred.
- Possession of a valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services credential for Language/Speech/Hearing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Language/Speech/Hearing instructional strategies and school curriculum.
ABILITY TO:
- Demonstrate respect and concern for students, parents, other staff and administrative colleagues.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of groups and individuals.
- Plan and organize work.
- Meet schedules and time lines.
- Report writing methods and techniques.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Frequency Key; None (1) Occasional - up to 25% of shift (2);Intermittently - up to 50% of shift (3); Frequently — up to 75% of shift (4)
