Title: Teacher Reports To: School Site Principal or Designee

Department: Academic Achievement & Accountability (AAA) Work Year: 183 Days per year

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The teacher, under the supervision of the School Site Principal, delivers an educational program to students and supports other school initiatives as directed.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate exhibits respect and care towards students, parents, fellow staff members, and administrative colleagues. They possess qualities such as open-mindedness, fairness, consistency, a sense of humor, and emotional stability. Additionally, they should have the ability to make sound decisions and perform their duties in accordance with district standards.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • The teacher instructs students in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship using the curriculum approved by the Board of Education, as well as other relevant learning activities. They may also teach a foreign language if required.
  • The teacher designs and implements structured learning experiences to engage students and optimize instructional time effectively.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning

atmosphere in the classroom.

  • Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on the individual pupil’s progress.
  • The teacher identifies the needs of students and collaborates with other professional staff members to assess and meet those needs effectively

helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

  • Creates with assistance from pupils a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
  • May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on the district level.
  • Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
  • Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
  • Participates with other professional staff members in the social hygiene and outdoor education programs.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate credential as required by the District and the State for the position.
