DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or designated Manager, perform skilled mechanical and electrical work in the inspection, service, installation, repair and alteration of existing heating, air-conditioning units including but not limited to boilers, air ducts and refrigeration systems and all related equipment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Install, service, maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC units, boilers, refrigeration and freezing equipment as required.
Diagnose, test and determine repair needs and requirements for defective units and parts.
Inspect, repair, maintain, and replace reciprocating and centrifugal compressors. Clean and rod boilers, maintain and service water towers, closed water systems, steam systems, water pumps and other related equipment.
Repair, install, and maintain pneumatic control systems, including air compressors, low and high voltage control systems and related sensory instrumentation and controls for appropriate air flow,
Service, repair, maintain and replace furnace filters, air blowers, exhaust fans, ventilators, coolers, gas valves and other related heating equipment.
Test systems and joints, insulate pipes and duct work pertaining to heating ventilation systems,
Fabricate, repair and install metal and various types of duct work, panels and covers,
Operate and maintain a variety of specialized hand and power tools and equipment,
Install, repair and replace window units, heat pumps, DX and complex MZ units, maintain low and high pressure chilling equipment.
Service, repair and maintain walk-in freezers, domestic and commercial food storage refrigerators, ice machines, water and beverage coolers and other related equipment,
Assure work completed and in progress complies with applicable EPA laws, rules and regulations.
Must have a basic understanding of and be able to use a personal lap top computer. Be able to use the "Alerton Bactalk" computer program and understand the energy management system as it relates to HVAC equipment.
Drive and operate a District value to conduct work.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:

High School diploma or GED, and training equivalent to HVAC and refrigerant mechanic apprenticeship program and five years of journeymen level HVAC and refrigerant experience

LICENSE:

Must have appropriate California Drivers License and be insurable by the Districts insurance carrier
Must have a valid EPA Refrigerant Recycling Certification.
