Title: Teacher

Reports To: School Site Principal or Designee

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The teacher provides an educational program to students that has been approved by the School Site Principal and may be tasked to engage with other school programs.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The demonstration of respect and concern to students, parents, colleagues, and administrators is an essential quality for any educator. Equally important is an open-minded, fair, consistent, emotionally stable, and humorous disposition.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • The teacher delivers education to pupils in various subjects like reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, health, art, physical education, music, and citizenship through the use of the curriculum approved by the Board of Education and other relevant educational resources.
  • Devises deliberate teaching approaches to inspire students and make efficient use of available class time.
  • Promotes and upholds guidelines for student behavior that are imperative for cultivating a healthy and constructive learning environment within the classroom.
  • Assesses the academic and social advancement of pupils, maintains detailed records, produces comprehensive progress updates, and maintains open communication channels with parents to provide regular updates on the progress of individual students.
  • Works effectively with other professionals to evaluate the needs of students and adopt appropriate measures to tackle any challenges related to their health, attitude, or learning.
  • In conjunction with students, develops an engaging and aesthetically pleasing educational setting through the integration of eye-catching displays, informative bulletin boards, and interactive learning stations.
  • Carries out rudimentary attendance accounting and financial tasks as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtains and stocks up on books, instructional supplies, and teaching aids, with a requirement to maintain accurate inventory reports.
  • Ensures the room environment remains comfortable by regulating the heating, lighting, and ventilation as best as possible.
  • Watches over pupils while they participate in activities away from the classroom setting.
  • The district testing program is followed while administering the group standardized test.
  • Actively participates in programs aimed at enhancing the curriculum of the assigned school or the entire district.
  • Shares in the support of student programs and is an active member of faculty committees.
  • My role as an assistant entails designing and overseeing the activities of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
  • Teams up with colleagues to promote social hygiene and outdoor education initiatives.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate credential as required by the District and the State for the position.
